old-fashioned mothering made new again
A halloween lantern that the kids can enjoy every night.

Total time: 1 hour
Cost: $20
What You Need
Assorted clear jars - we a variety from mini jars, bell jars, sauce jars, etc.
Painter's tape
1 can of frosted glass paint
Mini LED candle lights - we got ours from the dollar bin at Target
Optional - 1 can of colored paint to paint the lids - we bought black
Make It
Thoroughly remove labels, wash and dry all jars. For the pasta sauce jars, I placed 1 tsp baking soda and boiling water (be careful it will bubble fast!) inside over night to remove any odors. Once completely dry, tape faces onto the jack-o-lantern jars, cutting shapes with scissors. I let the kids sketch jack-o-lantern faces on paper, then tried to make these faces onto the jars. In a well-ventilated area, take the sealed jars (i.e. keep the lids on!) and spray with the frosted glass paint. Allow to dry and repeat until the jars appear transclucent. It took me three spray sessions until I was completely happy. If you're spraying the lids, do this now in a separate area. Again, this took me two rounds to get where I was completely happy. Once everything is dried, remove the tape, pop in a LED light, seal the jar and enjoy!
My kids each slept with one in their rooms as a nightlight for the month of October. So cute!
Variation: If you want more pop to their faces, you can use a black glass paint pen and fill in their eyes, nose, etc.
